‘Exotic' dessert
- 3 fresh cucumbers
- 2 tablespoons of raisins
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 4 tablespoons of crushed nuts
- 2 tablespoons of chopped herbs
Coarsely grate the cucumbers, add the honey, nuts and raisins; mix all the ingredients together and sprinkle the herbs over the top.

A distinguished Raja, the leader of a region in India , had one daughter. The Raja longed to find his daughter a suitable husband who he could pass on his title to when he became old. But all the bachelors avoided the Raja's house because his daughter was spiteful and bad-tempered. To make things worse, her face was covered in pimples, and when she became angry, even more pimples appeared...

It was hard not to lose her temper with anyone. The next day, the Raja's daughter noticed some beggars in the courtyard. She was about to shout at them when she remembered the fairy's words and ordered the servants to give the beggars some food.
At that moment the servant girl cried out in joy:
‘Miss, a sprout has appeared in your pot!'
Everything happened as the fairy had predicted. The first leaf emerged after ten days, and then leaves started to appear every day. A long vine grew out of the pot and yellow flowers began to blossom. Soon, instead of one flower, the first teeny weenie pimpled cucumber appeared. Every day the cucumber became bigger and smelt sweeter. The Raja's daughter spent her whole time admiring the cucumber and one day she could bear it no longer. She kissed the cucumber and exclaimed: ‘You are so wonderful!'
At that moment the cucumber turned into a handsome young man in a green satin waistcoat. On his head sparkled a small, golden crown, like the cucumber's flower. The young man bowed courteously and said:
‘Hello, beautiful lady, I am Prince Cucumber. Would you like to marry me?
‘I would!' cried the girl. ‘But my face…'
